Make a Raggedy Andy Costume in 3 Easy Steps

By Eddy Firestone

In some versions, a sailor by nature, the doll faced Andy was kind in nature and learned valuable life lessons through each adventure he went through. With a positive outlook, he overcame the obstacles that come along with being a raggedy doll.

If no good costume ideas have been suggested for the upcoming Halloween festivities, consider being Raggedy Andy. His loyalty and content with the little things in life make him someone everyone wants to be around. And although people say that dog is a man's best friend, from the wisdom of children you can learn that a good doll can fill the same role without needing to be fed or cleaned up after. Once you've realized the greatness of Raggedy Andy, its time to start putting the costume together!

If you have checked in your old childhood books and are still unsure of how to compile the outfit, have no fear. Directions are here. Follow these steps and you will be a spitting image of Raggedy Andy.

Step One- Don't throw away that flannel shirt you thought you would never wear. Its coming back and with passion. A red and white checkered or flannel shirt is the first step to Andy's ensemble. This undershirt will keep you warm in what can be a chilly trick or treating night. Now although Andy is raggedy character, his clothing are still in decent condition. Therefore try to find a shirt that is in good shape, rather then one with tears or holes.

Step Two- As a counterpart to Raggedy Ann who wears a blue dress, Raggedy Andy can be found wearing blue pants that go up to the waist. You have the option of adding two red buttons to the top of the pants. These pants can also fall somewhere in the middle between your knees and ankles. To cover whatever skin is still showing take a pair of white socks and pull them up as high as possible. Knee high socks will work best, just ensure that they are not too thick to fit into the ordinary pair of black shoes that you own. The key to keeping the outfit look authentic and attract the Ann's of the night is to be comfortable.

Step Three- The final component to this costume is headgear. While naturally you might not have red dreads, you can find a Raggedy Andy wig online. Whether its your first time with dreaded locks or as a red head, the wig will do wonders you might never have imagined possible. Now to top off the costume, find a small white sailors hat and use bobby pins to keep it down.

Once you have followed all these steps you have done all that's needed to hit the town. But if it suits you, carry along a copy of Raggedy Andy stories. That way if the party your attending flops, you can save the entertainment and relax everyone back into nap time. Most importantly have fun.
